Abstract
This study analyzed the trend of research on Heathy City projects using social network analysis (SNA). To this end, phases of the Healthy City projects were categorized into take-off phase, growth phase and maturity phase, and the research papers were analyzed with a focus on their major stakeholders and issues that were covered. Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) was used to select 96 papers that had been published since 2006, when the Healthy City projects began. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the number of studies on the Health Cities projects had increased until 2010, and then declined. Key research areas include establishing infrastructures of the Healthy Cities, evaluating the Health Cities, developing policy tasks, creating indices, and case studies. Second, during the take-off phase, most research dealt with issues regarding an overall concept of Healthy cities, with a strong interest in the residents¡¯ quality of life or eco-friendliness. Third, during the growth phase, majority of the studies focused more on the operational aspect of the projects; in specific, one of the key issues were methodologies to prioritize projects. Lastly, studies performed during the development stage mainly discussed the evaluation of project performance, and a number of studies tried to include the Healthy City projects in health planning of local governments. Taken together, the above findings show that key stakeholders and issues of the research papers on the Healthy City projects changed throughout different phases, which was reflected on the social network. Nonetheless, follow-up research needs to develop objective criteria for classifying the project phases or selecting study papers to be used for the analysis.
